Why Hitting The Snooze Button Is TERRIBLE For Productivy

When we think about hitting the snooze button ⏰and why we do it (more than once for some of us), we tend to think of it as this annoying thing that we have to deal with when we are trying to get up in the morning, right? 😩

But did you know that hitting the snooze button can affect our productivity during the day, or at least half of it? Why is that?

When we sleep, we tend to do it in cycles of 1.5 - 2hrs. We usually go over 3 to 4 cycles each night.

Right before we wake up, the sleep cycles stop and our bodies start getting "ready" to begin the day. When the alarm goes off, we are in “waking up” mode.

👉GUESS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON?

When we hit snooze (and sleep for another 5-10 minutes, for instance), we make our brains start another sleep cycle, and even if we get up after battling with the alarm clock, our brains are still in that “sleep mode", producing what’s called Sleep Inertia (that feeling of wanting to stay in bed for a longer period of time). Sleep inertia can last about 4-5 hours, affecting our morning productivity BIG TIME 😐.

What to do then? It’s pretty simple BUT NOT easy.. Build that self discipline to avoid hitting the snooze button. Don't let your mind win the battle. Remember, if you hit snooze, you not only tell your brain to go back to “sleep mode” for another 2+ hrs, but the first hours of your morning are usually not as productive as they would have been had you not hit snooze.
